Our mission, purpose and priority are to EMPOWER Deaf people by giving them work and professional support. Having witnessed Deaf people lose their jobs along with the shortage of hearing bilingual interpreters, we decided to embark on the important journey of advocating for the Deaf to support them as "allies.”
One way we are doing this is by giving Certified ASL Instructors work and income through ASL classes. In this way we support the Deaf in a tangible way. Our classes form a small community and are conducted in American Sign Language (ASL)
from the very first day. Interaction with others in the class allows students to rehearse what they are learning. Using voice distracts from the process and delays ASL development which is why there is a "No Voice Rule" in the class. The classes cultivate a real signing environment. This is assimilated learning! This way one can become even more aware of
culturally sensitive conduct.
The more people, businesses and industry who know ASL, the more "barrier free" the community becomes. It is as simple as that. The more people who know ASL, the more accommodating it is for the Deaf, not to mention the many benefits to you as you learn to sign. We want to thank our students across all Canada for their support as they begin to understand "barriers"
and what it means to "be Deaf" (as much as possible). Visit our website to see what others are saying about the benefits they have experienced. https://palmsignlanguage.com/testimonials
Since your goal is to be able to communicate with the Deaf, we invite you to join our cause and register for a free workshop, an assessment, or a class. We are here to help you in your journey as you grow in your awareness.
